When Gary Russell Junior stopped Patrick Hyland in 2 rounds in April, it looked like the end of the Dubliner’s world title ambitions. However, if he can overcome the odds this evening and upset the unbeaten home favourite Josh Warrington in Leeds, Hyland might well find himself in the world title picture once again. It’ll be no easy task but both of their come forward, busy styles should mesh into a fantastic spectacle for fight fans.
Warrington is unbeaten in 23 but he’s only stopped 4 of those opponents and if Hyland can rediscover the form that gave former world champion Javier Fortuna a torrid fight, he can cause the upset this evening.
On the undercard and with world title ambitions of his own, Ryan Burnett takes on Cesar Ramirez of Mexico. Burnett hasn’t put a foot wrong as a professional and his racked up 13 wins, stopping 9 of his opponents. The Belfast Bantamweight will be looking to put on another impressive performance and a world title opportunity against the Lee Haskins-Stuart Hall winner could well be the prize. Also on the card, Frankie Gavin makes his first appearance in over a year. He takes on Ivo Gogosevic of Croatia.
